Back to school

Himanshu and Sachin visited Jakhadhar from 18th to 21st December and were happy to find good weather up in the mountains. Old snow was there up on the higher ridges (just a few days back there was a snow fall) but down in the valley, it was balmy- clear sky, soothing sun and peaceful landscape to horizon..

We conducted a random written test, which everyone has done well at, but it has also brought up the need for more revision. Sachin taught calculating square root of a number by the division method to class 4 and 5. We joined the mid day meal with children and saw them taking more than one helping. It was fun time. We showed the children Robinson Crusoe film, since there is a lesson about him in the English text book of class five. We also showed the children a movie about the birth of Jesus and discussed the core message of his life and teachings, since Christmas is round the corner. 

We shared following movies also with staff and children:
Hichki : about Tourette syndrome and class room interactions.
Stanley ka dibba: about problems of "working children" when they do join a school.

Both were touching and very relevant movies for people associated with education.
One day, we had a staff meeting over "chai-pakodi"! The new guru ji (virendra sir) is doing fine.


PS: Chain Singh Guru ji has lost his youngest sister in a road accident in Roorkee... Our Heartfelt condolences and prayers for the family.

Computer Education- Apna School Smta Niketan-2019,

अपना स्कूल में छात्रो को सप्ताह  में दो दिन कम्प्युटर का बेसिक ज्ञान दिया जा रहा हैं। जिस में मा0 हिमांशु रावत छात्रो को पूरी मदद करते हैं।

दिसम्बर की सर्दी की वजह से शिक्षक कक्षाये स्कूल के बरामदे में लगा रहे हैं।

 दि0- 7/12/2019, बढ्ती सर्दी के कारण छात्रो को धूप में स्कूल के बरामदे में पढाया जा रहा हैं।

दिनांक-28/11/2019. समता परिसर विकास नगर में नलकूप की मोटर खराब होने की वजह से परिसर में एक सप्ताह तक पानी की निकासी बंद रही।पानी के नलो में लाल मिट्टी जम जाने के कारण मोटर में भी जंग लग गई थी। चार दिन में पलम्बर व मजदूरो ने पानी के नल व मोटर बदल कर पानी की निकासी चालू कर दी थी। अब परिसर में सभी जगह ठीक से पानी आ रहा हैं।

Annual General Body Meeting

16 Nov 2019: We had AGBM at Vikasnagar campus. Rachit, Pawan, Baraf Singh, Sultan, Kundan, Dhaneshwari and Satyendra participated and had a meaningful discussion. Rekha ji and a few other colleagues were not able to participate due to unavoidable reasons. The current governing board was re-elected. We all had lunch together and discussed issues raised, including the ones shared by Ruben through email.

The new teacher

Virendra sir is the new teacher at SMTA school since November 2019. He is teaching class 1-3, all subjects. He comes from jogio village and has taught at St Paul school, vikasnagar in the past. Children love him. He too loves teaching children. We wish him all the best in his career and life.

TISA. Workshop at Samta Campus Vikasnagar.Nov.2019.

दिनांक-01/11/2019 से दि0-03/11/2019. तक समता परिसर विकासनगर में टिसा (TISA) संगठन के प्रतिभागियो के लिये तीन दिवसीय कार्यशाला का आयोजन किया गया। डा. श्रीवास्तव जी ने सभी प्रतिभागियो को तीन दिन तक खूब व्यस्त रखा।

Prodigal Dog

Leo was raised by Marian till he was old enough. He was given away after an year, since Marian's health was failing. Couple of years later, he returned to SMTA campus, where he had spent his adult life. His mother was Goldie- a street dog and father was a Brindle (brown with black markings)- another street dog! So, Leo was quite ugly: strange brown red coat with black stripes and a funny face, like that of a jackal!

And his ugliness makes him all the more lovable..
But right now, he is battling with a bad wound on his head, with maggots. Dr Joshi, the government vet, has seen him and advised a set of injections - given by Sachin. Prognosis is reserved but we are hopeful. Dhaneshwari is giving him regular meals and turmeric powder with milk. Wherever Marian is, she too is praying for him, I am sure..

Tiuni Visit (8-13 Oct, 2019)

The second year of RWP is coming to an end. Himanshu and I visited the area and checked all the structures made, interacted with two women's groups and some community members. We emphasized the fact that they have to make sure that these structures are maintained well and used fairly. At the end of the trip, Satyendra undertook a two day solitude in a hut near the forest- very close to the water pond made under RWP in upper Banpur:

It was very encouraging to see that women who were cutting grass (getting ready for the winter), were using protective gloves on their hands:

We had some quite useful meetings with women's group..

Needs of the area persist but people have understood that they can do a lot on their own- and also from other sources- like state schemes. We have promised to keep in touch - as friends- even if there are no future SMTA programs in this area. Of course, women are still waiting for a Manos Visit - to show them their simple but rich life style -and unending hospitality..

RWP. JHITAD, BANPUR-2019.

 दिनांक- 03/10/2019, माह सितम्बर के अंतिम सप्ताह में मंगाण बस्ती बानपुर में पोंड (तालाब) का कार्य पूरा किया। यह तालाब जल संचय के उद्देश्य से बनाया गया है।

  दिनांक-  03/10/2019, 28 सितम्बर 2019 को एक हौज़ का निर्माण कार्य पूर्ण किया गया। यह हौज़ स्याणा जी (झिटाड) बगीचे में बना हैं।

दिनांक-26/09/2019, आज अपना स्कूल के सभी छात्रो को श्री सीता राम जी ने दोपहर के भोजन मे खिचडी परोसी। छात्रो ने बडे चाव से खिचडी का मज़ा लिया।

दिनांक- 19/09/2019,  ग्राम सभा पुनाह पोखरी में वेणु गोपाल ट्रस्ट दे.दून व समता चकराता के सहयोग से बंजर भूमि विकास,कृषि विकास व बागवानी विस्तार पर दोनो गांव की एक बैठक गांव स्याणा श्री विजयपाल सिंह की अध्यक्षता में आहूत की गई । बैठ्क में दोनो गांव वेणु गोपाल ट्रस्ट के साथ सभी मुद्दो पर कार्य करने तथा भरपूर सहयोग देने के लिये सहमत हुये।
